This ironically is happening in a Democratic State. Curiously, the Inspector General of Police, who is the Head of the Police, the Attorney General of the Federation, who is the Chief Law Officer of the Federation, the President, who is the C-in-C of the Armed Forces of the Federation, all appear unperturbed or, better put, have remained silent. Even in the face of tyranny the brave always dares to speak, least he be presumed dead. Dont get me wrong, I am not that brave one. Someone else is. The National Assembly is. Based on the overwhelming allegations of arbitrariness and unprofessionalism against CP Mbu in the conduct of his duties as the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, the National Assembly (both the Senate and House of Representative) carried out a thorough investigation, upon which it indicted the CP Mbu and accordingly directed the IGP through a legitimate and official instrument, a Resolution that Mr CP Mbu should be redeployed from Rivers State. Again, those whose duty it is to enforce this legal directives have willfully refused and failed to do so. Indeed, it was mind blowing to hear the IGP address the Press from the Seat of Nigerian Authority, Aso Villa to say that Mr Mbu will not be redeployed. What a choice of venue for such briefing. Its as shameful as it is unintelligible. In all of these, I have listened carefully to hear the voice of the Attorney General of the Federation or the Nigerian Bar Association, either in support or condemnation of the willful disregard and disrespect for the order of a court of competent jurisdiction, whose legitimacy and power to make such orders was not challenged by the Police. The continuous silence of the Attorney General over this matter has sold him out. Im tempted to think that, either the Attorney General is confused, or afraid to speak out either way, or has something chewing in his mouth and cannot speak at this time or has his hands tired by other factors. In either of these, he has failed the Nation in his duty as the Attorney General. I recommend nothing against him, because should I recommend resignation, who shall implement it. However, I shall commend him strongly to prosperity. For the NBA, the principle of silence is golden shall not avail it, because whilst being silent, we have heard its voice very loud and strong in condemnation of the appointment of a CJ of a State, we have heard it in opposition of State Police and in blanket support of the Programmes of Mr. President. Whilst I dont not condemn the support of my Presidents Programmmes, such blanket approvals is inconsistent with the pattern and practice of the NBA. I have hope yet in one voice. The voice that sparingly speaks. Its is the voice of the Chief Justice of the Federation. This voice must speak now. NOT ABOUT the sealing of a Council Secretariat by the Police, not about the willful disregard of the Resolution of the National Assembly, BUT ABOUT the deliberate attempts by the Executive to emasculate the Courts, about the disregard for RULE OF LAW. The Executive must realize that no one Arm of Government is superior to the other in a Democratic State. Speak, CJN speak. Before I end this piece, I wish to draw the readers attention to David Petraeus, a CIA Chief who resigned from office merely for having extra marital relationship with another lady. He spared his nation the cost of that investigation. See the link attached... In our own Nation, even when the National Assembly had indicted CP Mbu for unprofessional conduct for which he is liable for dismissal, which was however mitigated to redeployment out of Rivers State, the IGP speaking from the Presidency dared the NASS and said Mr. Mbu shall remain. In all, what can I say but to bless my country: GOD BLESS NIGERIA Let me end by drawing everybodys attention to the saying that he who comes home with ants infested firewood should not be heard to complain when lizards come feasting in his home. That citizens all elect and resolve to obey the Police and the Laws is what makes society co-habitable. When such pledge is withdrawn, anarchy is the end result. GOD BLESS NIGERIA
