Acid Attack: Abid Ansari Asks Lawyers Not To Defend Victims Srinagar: A recently elected lawmaker in Kashmir has asked the lawyers’ group not to provide legal services to the two youth who have been arrested on charges of attacking a college student with corrosive liquid. Peoples Democratic Party’s Abid Raza Ansari who won from the Zadibal constituency appealed the Kashmir Bar Association not to provide legal assistance to the acid attack accused when the court hears the case. He said that criminal like these have no right to defend themselves and nobody should feel sympathetic for them. Hailing the role of police, Ansari said that the accused should be awarded stringent punishment sothat nobody dares to indulge in such heinous crime. “The conviction of the accused in this gruesome case will be a victory for the police and I hope that police will succeed in their endeavor,” he said. Terming the act as un-Islamic, shocking and evil, Ansar said that in a civilized society there is no place for such kind of ‘barbaric’ acts. Police Thursday arrested two friends who squirted acid on a law college student as she was onher way to attend a guest-lecture in region’s capital Srinagar on December 11. goo.gl/oLOKRk
