Acres of land in Oxford has stood empty and unused entirely for years. For example: Oxford business park. It could have been coppiced to provide cheap heating. There could be a yurt village on it (or even tents which can be purchased fairly cheap), with stoves and campfires to burn the coppiced wood on. Meanwhile how many people have been found frozen to death on our streets over the past 20 years whilst this piece of land has just sat there doing very little and isnt even accessible as an open space for local people. Of course, none of this is possible to do in reality because some already bloated landowner has been hoarding it. People used to stay down places like the Kidneys nature reserve but ended up being kicked out. I am against the policies of organisations like Shelter who rather simplistically suggest that the answer is to build affordable housing because that takes no account of the damage to existing communities that using up every bit of available space, does. This use of land with temporary buildings could have done less damage by now and saved lives.
