Acting Ameer calls for UN supervised probe commission to investigate into the ongoing violence; Jamaat never believes in politics of anarchy, he assertsWEDNESDAY, 21ST JANUARY, 2015 Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed has issued the following statement protesting and condemning the government’s repression and inhuman torture upon the opposition leaders and activists what they are carrying out in order to foil the movement which is going on demanding a fair, credible and participatory election under caretaker government and to ensure the voting rights of the people. “The opposition backed 20 party alliance called nationwide blockade is being observed across the nation protesting ban on holding processions and rallies and demanding a fair, credible and participatory election in a bid to secure the voting rights of the people. The government became reckless and carried inhuman suppression upon the general masses as the people of all classes are taking part in the opposition programs. The ruling party leaders and ministers also became afraid to see people’s complicity with the movement and asked the law enforcers to shot on protesters. Following such unlawful, undemocratic and unconstitutional instruction of the government, the head of the law enforcing agencies have also ordered the force members to shot on peaceful demonstrators. Besides, the ruling party hooligans are carrying out anarchy and turmoil across the country in a bid to shift the blame on opposition as a part of their new tricks. The countrymen are observing the opposition called programs peacefully tolerating the government’s repression, inhuman brutality and torture. The current political crisis has been created by the incumbent tyrannical government. This is not a crisis of law and order. We are repeatedly demanding a credible and participatory election in order to ensure people’s voting rights. But the authority has rejected our demand and carried inhuman repression, torture and oppression. They have imposed ban on holding processions and rallies which is our constitutional right. Whenever a procession brings out, the law enforcers have been made compelled to shot on protesters. Having no alternative, the opposition alliances have been forced to declare blockade for indefinite time since last 6th January. The government has announced to ply vehicles amid such blockade under police protection. Even after that, some miscreants are attacking the vehicles under protection and burnt the ladies and children to death. Without arresting those miscreants the government has initiated blame game against the opposition which is really mysterious. It has become a habit of the government to blame for Jamaat-e-Islami for all misdeeds. We have always protested against all types of anarchy, bomb explosion, violence and ill deeds. We have also urged the government to investigate into all those incidents to identify the criminals and to ensure their exemplary punishment. But the government paid no heed to our call and shifted blame on Jamaat-Shibir only to attain their ill political interest. It is very much clear to the countrymen that Awami League is the originator of all violence and anarchy. Jamaat never believes in the politics of arson and violence and never indulged such ill deeds. Since the past, Awami League carried massacre like killing people with gunpowder, bomb explosions, beating the people into death and ill politics of killing police. The people know, they are doing the same misdeeds again. Actually by carrying such anarchic activities, the authority has paved the way of arresting and suppressing the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir. The law enforcing agencies are shooting the people in broad daylight. They are arresting people from home and subsequently concocted the story of encounter or cross fire. In the meantime, they had killed Narail district ward councilor Advocate Imrul Kayes. The law enforcers have carried raid into the houses of the opposition men in Shibganj Upazila of Chapai Nawabganj district. Police has similarly picked up one Al Amin, his wife Beauty Begum and neighbor Moushumi from their house in Mithapukur Upazila of Rangpur district. Police broke the hands and leg of Al Amin in the police station. But since then all of them are missing. The role of the government substantiates that they are truly involved with anarchy, violence and mass killing. This is why; fair investigation and arrest of the real criminals is not possible for the government. Under the circumstances, we are demanding an investigation commission under the supervision of the United Nations in order to identify and arrest the real miscreants who are involved with the ongoing violent activities. Jamaat-e-Islami is ready to assist the concerned commission in this regard. I am praying for the eternal peace and blessings of the departed souls who have been killed by the government during this peaceful movement. I am also extending my sympathy to the victim families and praying for early recovery of the injured people. We are calling upon the peaceful countrymen to hold patience and to launch a united resistance against the misdeeds of the illegal government peacefully. The blood of the suppressed people cannot go in vain. The rights of the people will be restored on the sacrifice of the victims. To the law enforcers, I want to say that, it is your duty and obligation to protect the law and order and to root out criminals from the society. The ongoing crisis is no more similar to any criminal offence. It is a political crisis and you should be impartial under this situation. Stop shooting on general protesters. You should serve the interest of the nation instead of any party. Most of the people are now united under the umbrella of 20 party alliances. This is not an elected government. Less than 5 percent votes had not been casted for this government. Be refrained from doing unconstitutional tasks like shooting people just to save the illegitimate government. I am urging the authorities concerned to stop state backed terrorism and to undertake due initiatives to hold a credible and participatory election under caretaker government in order to solve the ongoing political crisis. I am also calling upon the countrymen to continue blockade, demonstrations and processions ignoring the government’s repression, brutal torture and oppression.”
