Action Alert OSCC is once again lobbying the Bigelow Bill (AB2268) as proposed to be amended. The pig bill will be amended on the floor today and be sent back to policy committee for a hearing this week. Since this is a house of origin deadline they will hear it this week. WE NEED TO CALL AND EMAIL NOW AND THE REST OF THE WEEK. I have our letter out to the entire assembly and will let you know when there is a hearing this week. Feel free to weigh in with committee members especially republicans on this one, they need pressure too. This has not been an even handed process and the language in the bill is extremely troubling and does not resolve many issues. Early in the process it appeared that this had the potential to be a good bill for Agriculture and Sportsmen. DFW wants to bail out and not do their job. We believe the commission is the right place to manage resources and at minimum the WPW Committee needs to have jurisdiction over a policy bill that is being amended in Appropriations for the first time. We believe that agriculture who wants to treat the pig as pest in the statute, should focus on retooling the depredation statute and providing more flexibility for taking methods with perhaps a review/sunset It appears that Bigelow and Assembly Water Parks and Wildlife needs to hear from SPORTSMEN AGAIN. Maybe he believes that because he is a Republican we won’t get on him. Maybe he values his agriculture more than sportsmen. I don’t care. We count, we pay our own way and we won’t tolerate any amendment that authorizes poisoning one of the states most sought after big game species. They are not ground squirrels and should not be classified the same.
