Activists in Venice held a Russell Tribunal on Saturday to charge - TopicsExpress

Activists in Venice held a Russell Tribunal on Saturday to charge various leaders with war crimes related to the conflict in eastern Ukraine. US President Barack Obama, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, European Commission President Manuel Barrosso, and NATO Secretary General Andreas Rasmussen were all tried in absentia during the tribunal. The event was organised by the head of the unrecognized peoples government of the Republic of Venice, Albert Gardin. After an hour of discussion the board retired to a private room to make their judgment, which was a guilty verdict for all accused. The original Russell Tribunal, also known as the International War Crimes Tribunal, was convened by British philosopher Bertrand Russell and French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre in 1966 to investigate war crimes during the Vietnam war. The tribunals do not have any legal standing, serving instead as forums to investigate and expose perceived injustices.
