Acts 12:6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter - TopicsExpress

Acts 12:6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. The peace of God can truly pass all understanding! Peter is in jail, more than likely facing a kangaroo court and quick execution. He is between 2 soldiers, bound with 2 chains, and sentries were guarding the entrance. This is not a place you would find any comfort of the body or spirit. Yet what do we see Peter doing amidst all this? He is sleeping. Peter is not wide awake with worry. He is not angry and bitter at God. He is not fretting about himself, his family, or the church. He is peacefully asleep in the middle of chaos. Only peace that comes from God can give us that kind of rest. This type of peace is promised to all who put their trust in the Lord. Whether we find ourselves under persecution, in a hospital, a stressful situation at work, or even a funeral home, God’s supernatural peace can flood our heart and mind. This peace is not logical or based on the circumstances. This peace does not flow from the human heart. This peace is based on our faith in the character of God, and is imparted by the Holy Spirit within us. It guards our heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Are you experiencing God’s peace in your situation? You can. Phil 4:6-7 promises us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Peter did this and he was sleeping like a baby! How about you?
