Acts 8: 14-15 “Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had RECEIVED the WORD of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: who, when they were down, prayed for them, that they might RECEIVE the HOLY GHOST:” Theme: The reception of the Word of God and the reception of the Holy Ghost: two moments If there is something common for the reception of the Word and the reception of the Holy Spirit: it is grace. None can say that he was well prepared when the Word of God was brought to him, because spiritually he was dead. Supreme gift fundamental for our salvation; these two act that forge the credibility of our Christianity are inseparable. The truth is that for the second to take place, the first one has to. However, it is obviously a need to explain what is this subject receiving the word and receiving the Holy Ghost. Before that, It is imperative to understand the term “receive”. The term “receive” is a passive verb which is different from the term “accept” active verb. “To receive” implies a power out of me, beyond my control, when “To accept” means an inner power that the action depends to my personal decision. We do not believe in order to be born again, but we are born again so that we may believe. It is not our faith that saves us, but it is Christ’s faith in us. The Holy Spirit is the holy presence of Christ glorified and exalted that comes and dwells in the heart of the chosen. We quick lecture from this verse of the book of Acts that someone quoting the Scriptures is not a sign that he is Holy Ghost baptize, but it just makes him a potential probable candidate for it. Faith is from God and the belief from men. We can’t just put the both term anyhow in the same register. The reception of the Word and the reception of the Holy Spirit is an act of faith. Father in The Name of Jesus-Christ, we thank You for Your Word. We need Your Spirit to dwell in us. We are glad to be Your home. Amen.
