Acts of kindness - Last week we took a little trip to Pacifica, - TopicsExpress

Acts of kindness - Last week we took a little trip to Pacifica, on the coast. Our motel was right at the ocean’s door. The first morning there, we headed out on a day trip to San Francisco. Overnight the ocean had covered my car with a nice spray of salty water, and I couldn’t see through my windshield. I turned on my wipers to try and clear it, and the wiper blade on the driver’s side completely snapped off! I’m guessing the blade had probably gotten stuck in the salty spray. So, there we were, with a windshield that was half clean and an empty wiper arm on my side. I drove over the hill to where I knew a Valero service station was. Since they worked on cars there, I figured they might have wiper blades, or at least would be able to tell me where the nearest auto parts store was located. I figured I’d fill up my car since we were there. As I pulled up to the gas pump, I noticed several signs posted that said “Self Serve”, so I was surprised when a gentleman came bounding out of the office and over to my car. He picked up the squeegee and started to wash my windshield for me! He quickly noticed that I was missing a blade. I explained what had happened. He said, “Oh, I think I can probably find something for you.” He took off and returned in less than a minute. He took a new blade out of the package and snapped it into place. He asked me to turn on the wipers to make sure it was the right size. It was perfect! I thanked him and told him I’d be in to settle up for the blade. He waved me off and said, “Ah, don’t worry about it”. “Really??”, I asked him. “Yep”, he said, “Glad to help”. I was so thankful for his act of kindness. Within 10 minutes, our little problem had been solved and we were on our way. Talk about a true blessing! In my book, it’s all about Karma. I try to help out wherever I can, always. I help because it’s the right thing to do, never expecting anything in return. Yet it seems that somehow in some way, in its own time, kindness is always returned and for that I am forever grateful.
