Actually the whole thing is a huge case of mis labelling. 4G - TopicsExpress

Actually the whole thing is a huge case of mis labelling. 4G is actually not 4G..it is actually 3G + LTE. So basically you are still using 3G WCDMA based network only with a more efficient way to transmit data packets using LTE or Long Term Evolution. LTE is some ways is the same as GPRS and EDGE...i.e. they are basically languages for the communication of computer. The network architecture is actually GSM (2G) and 3G (WCDMA). So effectively saying, 4G did not have a new network architecture or channel, the network is just using a more efficient language. Put it another way. Proper / Queens English versus Singlish. Singlish is our way of communicating between Singaporeans. We understand because we know the protocols of the language. For example...Normal English So what are we going to do about this situation? and Singlish So how ah? So Singlish is more efficient and since it is more efficient, we understand more information in the shortest possible time. So in some ways, LTE is Singlish. Right now what Starhub is telling you is this. I will still allow you to use the telephone line but now, I wont allow you to use Singlish unless you pay me $2.14 every month. If not, you have to use normal queens english for communication. In order to call a network 4G it has to meet certain criteria chief of which is the data throughput rate and at the moment our 4G is not really 4G speed. And by the same token, our 3G is not really 3G speed; just go to Hong Kong and Korea and have a feel of what real 3G speed is all about. In a way, we are being sold short.
