AdRock from the Beastie Boys take on the whole sad and sorry mess in Gaza and Israel: I am sick to tears with this continued suffering. And the lies told by both sides. And the men who want to make war. This is a situation that can be resolved without suffering and pain. Hamas declines a ceasefire because its in their interest to stay relevant with a war with the Zionists. Israels right-wing is afraid they will be voted out of power if they dont show a compelling need to keep them there so the need to show that theyre tough and so into Gaza they go. Zionists vs. Terrorist. And their minions tote the party line in the way that convinced zealots have for centuries. I feel for the Palestinian whos neighbor is an asshole that lets the morons use his house so when the Israelis bomb it his house is damaged/destroyed too. And I hurt for the parents whose children were mistakenly killed as they played on the beach. I feel bad for the reservists called away from their lives to enter Gaza and perhaps have to kill or be killed. I feel for the mothers who worry about their sons and daughters. This is a one sided fight whose end all but written except for the bodies. The foolishness of stupid old men. The cruelness of unthinking ideology. Youd think that we would have learned our lessons from the 20th century. But instead of a man made ideology of communism or fascism weve gone back to God. Which is all the more dangerous. This conflict combines the best of the medieval times with the methodical destruction of the worst tyranny the last century could produce. And its all been boiled down to sound bites and propaganda that is readily believed by the side youre rooting for. Madness! Frustrating undignified madness!
