Adam Lind was a platoon player at DH and rode the bench a lot, too - TopicsExpress

Adam Lind was a platoon player at DH and rode the bench a lot, too much for a man who made $7 million last year. Marco Estrada is a good stopgap for the Blue Jays rotation until the Triple-A pitchers are ready for the MLB. The Blue Jays had acquired Justin Smoak (1B/DH) off the waivers wire. Smoak provided .839 OPS against RHP in 2013 while Lind provided .860 OPS against RHP in 2014. The only question is can Smoak be his 2013 self in 2015? The pairing of Estrada and Smoak could prove to be a worth while move for the Blue Jays trading away Lind. For the Brewers, acquiring Adam Lind solidifies their 1B problems they had in 2014 where the Brewers platooned Mark Reynolds with Lyle Overbay. With Overbay retired and a relatively non-existant 1B market, it is easy to see why the Brewers went for Adam Lind who, by the way, could play full-time rather than being a platoon. The only question I have for the Brewers is this: If the Blue Jays were not higher up in the waiver wire than you, would you have added Smoak? And if so, would adding Smoak have prevented the Estrada for Lind trade?
