Adamawa: Group Canvasses Support for Marwa 01 Sep 2014 Font Size: a / A Mohammed Buba Marwa •Says ex-administrator will stabilise security in North-east A socio-political group made up of young Nigerians across the country, Democratic Young Patriots (DYP), has called on the delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State to support the governorship aspiration of former Lagos State Military Administrator, General Mohammed Buba Marwa, in the interest of the state and the North-east zone. The group in a statement released in Abuja yesterday by its National Coordinator, Ariyo-Dare Atoye, said their call was a patriotic duty after assessing the antecedents of all the aspirants already cleared by the PDP leadership to contest the by-election even as they pleaded with President Goodluck Jonathan to show interest in the coming election because of the security situation in the North-east. According to them, “as young patriots committed to democratic ideals, stability and prosperity of Nigeria, we wish to appeal to President Jonathan to show greater interest in the Adamawa State governorship election and be guided by the challenges confronting the North-east and the nation at large. Our dear president, Adamawa State is too strategic for leadership experimentation; we therefore urge you to consider the cost of insecurity in the North-east and the overall interest of the nation. Getting it right with Adamawa State will be a plus to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” While expressing support for the candidacy of Marwa, the young patriots said the former military governor in Borno has the track record and capability to evolve security strategies that will complement federal government’s efforts in the North-east zone. “We present to you, Marwa, a leader with proven track-record for good governance and security strategy. We urge you President Jonathan to support the aspiration of Marwa, which will complement your sincere efforts at addressing the security problems in the North-east. It is to the glory of God that a man who has a profound knowledge of Borno and Yobe States (as a former military administrator of old Borno State), is available for election by the PDP in Adamawa State. It is a rare development, that the good people of Lagos State who utterly condemned the regime of the late General Sani Abacha, however singled out Marwa for praises. His records as a former Military Administrator of Lagos remain indelible in Nigeria. “To our esteemed PDP delegates in Adamawa, we urge you to support the aspiration of Marwa in the overall interest of the state and by extension, Nigeria. We appeal to you to remember the years of bad governance and the misuse of state treasury for self-aggrandisement and be guided by the need to have a tested and trusted leader in saddle. Marwa is your son, he did it in Lagos and old Borno State; we assure you that he will do much more in his own state. This is not the time for leadership experimentation; it may prove very costly for the good people of Adamawa State if a wrong choice is made. Get it right with Marwa, support his aspiration and he will move Adamawa forward. “We also appeal to fellow Nigerians concerned about the insurgency in the North-east and those who debated the ‘treasonable letter’ written by the impeached former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, to show a greater interest in Adamawa by supporting Marwa. He connects very well with the ordinary people as a humble and humane leader. He will bring on board a new security strategy to complement the efforts of the federal government,” the group pleaded.
