Adamawa Muslims call for prayers against killings. The Adamawa State chapter of Muslim Council of Nigeria, on Monday called for sustained special prayers to end the current security challenges threatening the country. Spokesman for the council, Malam Sali Ibrahim, made the appeal in Yola at a special meeting of the council’s officials from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state. Ibrahim said peace was essential to meaningful development, hence the need for individuals and groups to promote and ensure security and peaceful coexistence. He said Muslims in the state had been enjoined to offer prayers for divine intervention, to end the insurgency in the North-East region in particular and the nation at large. Ibrahim also urged residents to be security conscious and offer maximum support to security agencies to enable them to succeed in the effort to protect lives and property in the state. “Our active support particularly in exposing or reporting suspicious elements in our communities to security agencies will help them deliver more effectively,” he said. On the council’s constitution, Ibrahim said the reviewed constitution now stipulates a three-year tenure for elected executive as against the previous unlimited tenure. He announced the replacement of some state officials who passed away and those on transfer to ensure smooth operations of the council. According to him, the new officials include Imam Salihu Umar as Vice Chairman and Malam Ismaila Modibbo as Secretary-General. They replaced Hamman Maunde and Mohammed Kawu, who had died
