Adanne! She was her mothers favourite daughter, loved by her father and envied by her siblings. What she never did was react rudely to her brothers aggressive remarks. She was so respectful and down to earth, just a girl who was almost spotless and faultless. Adanne was in JSS2 when her mother died, the dads untimely financial intervention was never enough to keep up with the ups and downs on campus. she eventually lost focus. On the other night, some group of hoodlums attached her when she was heading to her hostel. She was bruised and beaten but that was nothing compared to her virginity that was taken by the gang leader. She showered abusive words and cursed these boys before leaving them at the mercy of the almighty. It was as if the world was closing in on her...everything around her was a mirage. Every night she soaked her clothes with tears but could never cry herself out her predicament. To cap up the saddness, she became pregnant. This was well in line with what her brothers thought about her so kicking her out was never an issue. What more else am I living for? she thought. She didnt abort the baby not because she was morally upright or self righteous but because she lacked help of any sort. However, she managed to pull through with the pregnancy and had a boy, Chukwudi. Although Chukwudi was a product of a horrible encounter but she soon found peace and love in him. Twenty years later, it was obviously Chukwudis turn to fend for his mum. Despite his unlearnedness, he was never deterred that one day he will become the man every mum dreamt as a son. Mr. Ikenna, a very powerful politician, a native of Umuduru and a feared man. He majors in human trafficking and would play a god father of all sort. His source of wealth was a result of his massive recruitment of young men who serve as thugs to his co-politicians and in return he was heavily paid. This seemed like a wonderful opportunity for Chukwudi to enroll in Mr. Ikennas annual recruitment. Chukwudis colossal muscle and fearful height was a criterion in his favour. He was chosen to lead other recruits that year. In less than 4yrs he became his masters favourite. His master taught him all he needed to know about life. Nutured him further and even sent him abroad for his education. He admitted there was something unique about Chukwudi he was yet to spot. he even planned adopting him as one of his sons. The fast aging Adanne always dreamt she could set her eyes on the man that has changed her entire life through her son. she kept pestering her son to take her to Mr. Ikenna. It was not long before Chukwudi gave in and decided to take his mother to his boss. The house was set to welcome Adanne as she walked in through the door that led to deepest regret of her life. She stared deep into the eyes of Mr. Ikenna, there was something only her could see. she walked closer to the man, embraced him and said, no thanks for taking good care of our son. It was her second time since JSS2 that she has been this close to a man...the first was involuntary, but it was the same man. ....to be continued. ..
