Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) South-Zone Sri. K Padmakumar IPS launching the ‘Citizen App’ tool to promulgate awareness on traffic rules and penalties, brought out by the Kochi City police on 28.06.2014. The police’s Citizen app, which can be downloaded for free from Google Play Store, is a handy app that tells users all they need to know when travelling on Kochi’s roads.Using a search option in the app, users can find out more about specific traffic rules and the penalties imposed under those rules. If a police officer imposes a fine on a motorist for not wearing a helmet, the person can check the Citizen app to find out the exact rule and the fine amount prescribed as per law. The app also allows users to report crimes easily. The city police have been getting a good response from the public who report traffic violations through the WhatsApp messaging service on the city police number 7559899100. Through the Citizen app, users can click pictures of traffic violations and send it straight to the police through WhatsApp. The app was created under the initiative of Deputy Commissioner of Police R. Nishanthini IPS, whose team of police officers worked with Kaloor-based software solutions provider Cyber Prism to develop the app.
