Adeleke warns Osun PDP against coercing delegates Former Governor Isiaka Adeleke of Osun State has advised the state executive of the Peoples Democratic Party against forcing some delegates to follow a particular governorship aspirant in Saturday primary election. Adeleke said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Monday by his Media Director, Mr. Olumide Lawal. The aspirant said that although he joined the race late, he was ready for the contest and was confident that he would emerge victorious at the poll. The statement read, “ Osun PDP Exco, should avoid undue favoritism towards any candidate nor try to cut corners to whip some delegates into line through threat and coercion, to suit a particular aspirant, no matter for how long he has been in the race.” But the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Mr. Bola Ajao, when. contacted said that the executives would not favour any of the aspirants because they were all leaders of the party. He assured the people that the leaders would be fair to all the aspirants while saying the delegates would not be forced t do anything against their will. Ajao said, ” We as a branch of the PDP will not deviate from the internal democracy which our party is known for. We will offer a level playing field for all our aspirants because they are all leaders of this party. The delegates will not be coerced to do anything untoward.” Lawal stated further said that his principal, Adeleke, would not be scared away from any political battle no matter how late he joint it because he was always prepared. The statement read further, “Senator Adeleke who is the first Executive Governor of Osun State is set to make a repeat performance of his victory at the 1991 SDP primaries against the then juggernauts and heavyweight in Osun State. “Adeleke is a long distance runner, who will never run away from political battle, even if he is aroused from sleep. Therefore, Isiaka Adeleke is well prepared and will confidently march to the venue of the contest on Saturday and win convincingly. “At the end of the day, all aspirants will still pat themselves at the back with no victor, no vanquished submission. Adeleke can never be intimidated or scared away from any political battle. He is not chicken-hearted.”
