Adi Litia Cakobau backs the PM. Fiji Sun online Bau high chief and former Senator, Adi Litia Cakobau, has declared her support for the Prime Minister, Rear Admiral (Retired) Voreqe Bainimarama and the FijiFirst party. Yesterday she was at the party’s office at Brown Street to officially show her support for the party and its leader. At the FijiFirst office, Adi Litia said: “I am now a staunch FijiFirst supporter. “I have very strong support for them because I like and also support all the policies of the Bainimarama government and stand by them. “We as Fijians, as a party, still uphold our traditions, customs, and iTaukei values.” She said every Fijian, including the iTaukei, must not be scared of losing what they value because their rights were well considered under the 2013 Constitution. “For the iTaukei people, you should not be scared of losing what you value; your tradition, your culture, its values, the iVola Ni Kawa Bula and whatever you have about land ownership. You must not fear losing it because it is very much stated under the 2013 Constitution that everything that is iTaukei, no one else has the right to take that away,” she said. This was her response to claims now made by some political parties. Adi Litia also ruled out comments made by some political parties that the land ownership system was not secure and that women’s rights were not provided for in the 2013 Constitution. “What sort of proof do they have? This government has proof of native land being changed to freehold land and there has been much proof that is out there,” she said. “Do they also have proof when they bring it out in the open that land value has been taken away from them or the land that they own? I doubt it.” In the Constitution, she said, the women had their rights upheld and whatever land they owned. She ruled out being a candidate but she would be very active in campaignig for the party. Adi Litia is a daughter of the late Vunivalu of Bau and former Governor General, Ratu Sir George Kadavulevu Cakobau and Adi Venina Gavoka. Her elder sister, the late Adi Samanunu Talakuli, was the Minister for Fijian Affairs in 1994 and 1995. She became Fiji’s High Commissioner to Malaysia and Ambasador to Thailand and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific [ESCAP] in 1992. Adi Litia served with her younger brother, Ratu George Kadavulevu Cakobau, as senators from 2001 to 2006. Shortlink:
