Adikema Kudos Association of Female Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria, R/S for its first CPD workshop By Olufemi Ogunkilede A lecturer and formerly Head, Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Dr. Ndubuisi Adikema has commended the Association of Female Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter for bringing their ideas and resources together towards informing management in medical diagnostic and research laboratories, saying that it is indeed a step in the right direction in the development of the medical laboratory profession, not only in the state but in Nigeria as a whole. Dr. Adikema who made the commendation in his presentation to the association during the branch first Continuous Professional Development (CDC) conference workshop with the theme Advance in Laboratory Information System recently in Port-Harcourt equally stated that though the medical laboratory profession has come a long way in the struggle to take its proper place in the health care delivery system. The Female Medical Laboratory Scientist Association has by taking this initiative, moved the banner of the profession to a greater height. According to him, these conference provides an opportunity for the audience to learn new things and as well help to keep participants abreast of issues and current developments on the jon, saying that information management in the medical laboratory, roles of the computer in laboratory information systems, the role of the medical laboratory science council in laboratory information cannot be over emphasized in information management in medical diagnostic and research laboratories. He however narrated the benefits attached to it, saying that establishment of reference ranges for various analysis, controlling the spread of invective agents of diseases, adding that ethical considerations which the code of conduct for medical laboratory scientist, among other provisions, prohibits the release of findings on laboratory tests to unauthorized persons including others cannot be overemphasized. Speaking with newsmen after the conference, the assistant Chairman of Female Laboratory Scientist Rivers State Chapter Dr. Mrs Ibitotoko George Opuda advised members to be always informed and be sensitive to the environment and urged that scientist should be deployed in Rivers State. Also speaking, the CPD Chairperson Rivers State branch said that the information gained during the conference cannot be overemphasized, called on the state government to deploy lab scientist for effective workforce because more than 20 lab scientist will be retiring in Rivers State. Meanwhile, a lab scientist who spoke to newsmen stressed that the workshop which has already helped them in the information management in the profession is a welcome development, he also called on the state government through the ministry of health to ensure that they as well are working towards informing them the more in this regard. He commended the state Governor for the strides of the state health facilities set across the entire state.
