Adjusting to the end of Daylight savings. Most of my clients are on Qld time so we luckily dont have to deal with the changes to daylight savings. This is often the reason that queenslanders struggle to get their babies to sleep until 7am consistently and find a 6/6.30am start to the day more realistic. For other states this time can be challenging for parents of younger children. My tips are. -first and foremost is a good solid routine a t bedtime. This will ease the transition for little ones as they understand that night time sleep comes after bath time regardless of the time you start it. If you dont have a good bath and bedtime routine theres still time to implement one now. Start bath time 45 minutes before you will be putting baby to bed. Move directly into the bedroom from the bath and dont return to the living area. Start a bedtime routine for example getting dressed story milk feed then settle to bed. Aim for a 6.30/7pm bedtime (whichever suits your family best) Start adjusting your babies routine on the Wednesday before the end of day light savings. Move your routine by 15 minutes each night until you have reached your new time on the Sunday night (end of daylight savings) In the mornings encourage your baby to stay in bed for the extra 15 minutes in the morning by leaving them if you can or assisting them to be calm in their cots with assisted patting if necessary. If your baby is still asleep in the morning by all means let them sleep ;-) Move their feeds by 15 minutes each day too so hopefully by the first day of the end of daylight savings they will be adjusted onto the new routine Block out blinds are a huge help in adjusts I g babies body clocks Older children may find a gro clock helpful.
