Admin: In order to avoid further rumors, we want to address the issues that occurred in the hotel last night. First: The fire alarms were set off by people smoking in the stair wells. This is obviously against city codes and we regret that this negatively affected so many people. The issues with the elevators were a direct result of the fire alarm as the system automatically goes into a safe mode even after the alarm has been turned off. Second: Yes, there was an arrest last night as a result of someone being indecent, then fighting with the officers who responded. The Dallas Police Department has many officers who have been on duty at A-Kon for many years, and they are here to help with such illegal activities when they happen. A-Kon is committed to being a positive environment and will work with the hotel, the DPD, and our own Kon Patrol to provide this to all our attendees, but we need the community to remember that the kon is still a public place. The laws and rules of Dallas and the Anatole hotel DO apply and will be enforced. For 25 years, A-Kon has helped build a community of fans who have supported and encouraged each other in the many amazing expressions of our fandom, and we will continue to do so with your cooperation.
