[Admin] Putrajaya should put off its April 2015 implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), DAP MP Tony Pua said, claiming even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has acknowledged that the new consumption tax system would pose a burden to Malaysians, especially the poor families. Describing the new-taxation system as “cumbersome, confusing and complicated”, the Petaling Jaya Utara MP said the government should reconsider if it has been “too hasty” in pushing for the GST. Pua pointed out that Najib, when unveiling Budget 2015 last Friday, had announced a fresh list of additional exemptions to the GST on top of the existing list of tax-exempt and zero-rated goods and services. “It goes to prove our assertion that the GST will become a major burden for the people, especially those in lower income groups,” said Pua.
