Admit it, we all enjoy climbing into warm cars on cold days, thats why so many of us get up a few minutes early in morning to on turn the engine a few minutes to warm-up it. According to many drivers and police officers thats where the trouble starts. Did you know those extra few minutes could get you a ticket? Or worse, someone steals your car? Bill Morris who lives in Abilene and who has been driving for decades admits sometimes he starts his car when its cold outside, Ill leave it long enough for the computer to go through its cycle and warm up, Ive got an extra set of keys at home. Morris says he would never leave his car unlocked and running because he knows the risk of someone stealing it, youve got to be aware of that kind of stuff so when Im at home Ill lock the car and leave it running. According to the Texas Law, drivers who leave vehicles running without turning them off or taking the keys out of the ignition on public property could get a ticket. Abilene Public Information Officer, Rick Tomlin says use common sense, he said, once you get your car stolen because you were trying to warm it up for 15 or 20 minutes, you know its just not worth it, so dont do it. Tomlin says hes never heard or seen an officer hand out tickets to drivers for violating this law, but it is on the books.
