Adoption Awareness month day 11: What is the biggest challenge as an adoptive parent of an older child? Id say for us, its building trust. Its seeing beyond the behaviors to see into the heart of a wounded child. Often I try to discipline the behavior away, when i really need to strive for understanding and to win my childs heart. Sometimes Im just too tired, too irritable, or too human. Thankfully my children, despite their woundedness, greatly desire to trust. The words, Im sorry coming from my mouth goes a long way in those moments to build that trust.
