Adoption continued: March - 2008. Another surgery. This one could have been avoided if he hadnt gotten an infection in his nose in the fall, but what can you do. The doctor had explained it to us that he would just be going in to try and loosen his lip a little and reconstruct his nose. We were anxious for this because we wanted to get his nose back to that nice, round shape it was after the first surgery. It also seems to be affecting his breathing - having his nose flat like that. The surgery goes off without a hitch and we are only in the hospital overnight. We dont even have to spend the night in ICU because he did so well. That was a great present because it is so annoying there. He comes out of surgery, and his nose has barely changed. We are pretty disappointed. The surgeon said he just didnt have enough tissue to do anything more at this point and the hope is as he ages, we will be able to change it little by little. It made us upset because what was the point of putting him under anesthesia again if there wasnt much he could do. Because he didnt do anything besides a Botox injection in his lip, he could eat a regular diet which was also a plus. He does have the nose plugs for two weeks, and some small sutures, so he has to wear the arm restraints, which isnt great. But this should be his last surgery for a long time. Now we concentrate on getting his thumbs straight, his speech clear, and work through his orphanage issues. He is letting us touch his legs more. He is getting better with touching things like grass and sand. He is eating like a champ and putting on some weight. We sell our Florida house and move to Connecticut by the end of May. Cainan has his last visit with a social worker at his one year mark in the summer of 2008. He turns 2 years old and we have a chance to celebrate a birthday with him. We have his vision rechecked and thanks to a better diet, his eye sight has greatly improved and he doesnt need glasses. The hand braces come off and he starts using his whole hand to pick things up. Occupational therapy goes away, but speech will continue until he is 5. He experiences snow for the first time.......and doesnt like it. :) He starts a new preschool and being around more kids causes him to start to speak more. And then......when things are looking up - Finley is diagnosed.
