Adoption update for Ollie! (Formerly Buddy) Ollie settled in as if he’d been with us all his life! He immediately became part of the family, and happily tolerates our little grandchildren (7, 4, 2-1/2 and 9 months), as well as all visitors and visiting dogs. He is very curious about my daughter’s cats, and wants to play with them, but they don’t like him much, so he keeps his distance! The two pictures here are at our cottage where he thinks he’s died and gone to heaven! He smiles all the time we’re there, and swims in the lake at every opportunity. He is such a good boy, so well trained. He must have been very much loved somewhere in his past. We take him for long walks out behind the airport where he can run freely, and he seeks out and plays with any other dog who happens to be anywhere around. We have dog-sat my best friend’s dog (Golden Retriever mix) a few times, and the two of them are fast friends - they eat each other’s neck, race in and out of the dog flap and around the yard, and follow each other around the house. His only problems are his love for garbage and his counter-surfing! We have to remove every scrap of food and every plastic bag from everywhere (sports bags included!) when we go out, and have set up Fort Knox to prevent him opening the cupboard doors to the garbage and green bin containers (see photo - you can see his footprints where he tried to outwit this device, but failed)!! The caribiners are a vestige of our previous security attempt, but he managed to wrench the metal ring that connected the two and got in. He is VERY smart, and has figured out pretty much every trick we’ve come up with, but today, for example, I was able to go out for a couple of hours and he didn’t manage to do anything he wasn’t supposed to. We sent off his DNA to see what breeds he is, and he came back as almost half German Shepherd, almost a quarter Labrador Retriever, and almost a quarter Boxer - the first two not surprising, but didn’t expect the latter. I thought he’d have Husky in him, but no. Suffice it to say, we love him dearly - he’s a wonderful boy and we are extremely grateful that we found each other. Thank you for taking care of him so well - Julie and family were a wonderful foster placement for him - and facilitating our connection. We are blessed to have him.
