Adrienne and I have been part of a really fascinating debate at the first face to face meeting of the National Steering Committee. This group is overseeing and guiding the National Review of Volunteering Australias Definition of Volunteering. Weve witnessed lots of passionate discussion about what should be encompassed in a new or reaffirmed definition, and how we can best explore some of the complexities that this brings up. Some of the key themes that have really been driven today, include having a workable, practical definition that can be responsive to new and emerging trends in volunteering. We were also very action focused today, with great engagement across the State and National peak bodies and the Steering Committee as to how we start to consult and engage the community on the National Review. The launch of the Issues Paper on December 5 will highlight many of the complexities around the definition. I hope that this really acts as a catalyst for an ongoing dialogue on these issues - Courtney
