Advancement Towards HGA Vaccine Advancement Towards HGA Vaccine first appeared on backyardbugpatrol. There’s been a lot of coverage lately about the tick borne virus Chikungunya, and we’ve recently been talking about Lyme disease. However, let’s not forget about another infection known as human granulocytic anaplasmosis or (HGA) for short. As the second most common tick borne disease in the United States, the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine have been working hard on developing a vaccine. Vaccine against tick-transmitted disease under development An important advancement toward developing a vaccine against the debilitating and potentially deadly tick-transmitted disease, human granulocytic anaplasmosis has been made by scientists. Successful vaccine development hinges on knowing what to target to prevent disease, and the research team has identified three such proteins on the surface of the HGA agent. It appears to be progressing well and fingers crossed the development of a successful vaccine could be just around the corner. Until then and beyond any successful vaccination, we need to ensure that we keep on top of our yards. Keep them protected with a barrier spray program and a tick tunnel for a complete tick control plan. It’s sad to see how these diseases have such an impact on people. Let’s hope that this vaccine is successful, and many others are developed for many more tick borne viruses. ‘Hats off’ to all those clever medical researchers out there! Now go and make sure your protected! Image Credit
