Advances on new Spider Alfa Romeo and Fiat The Alfa Romeo Spider, as is known, will not be based on the Mazda MX-5, as Marchionne has determined that all Alfa Romeo must be 100% Italian. The British magazine Car interviewed Harald Wester, head of Alfa Romeo, which announced as the new Alfa Romeo Spider is a true Alfa 100%, adding that it will be a car derived from the innovative platform Giorgio. George is the code name to represent the new platform used for the rear-wheel drive car, to become almost all new models of Alfa Romeo, including its anticipated Alfa Romeo segment D, arriving June 24, 2015. Wester has specified that the collaboration between Mazda and FCA will continue, but as regards the division of Fiat and Abarth, which will give rise to a new Fiat Barchetta and maybe there will be a version Abarth based on the Mazda MX-5. The Spider Fiat will come out in 2016, while the Alfa Romeo Spider will come between 2016 and 2018, accompanied by a lot of news from the FCA group between now and 2018.
