Advent Devotional Date: December 1, 2013 Scripture: Read Col. 3:12-17 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. Col. 3:14, 15 The Body of Christ The Body of Christ has always been an important concept for me. My church family which is a small part of the larger Body of Christ is precious to me. This past summer, I was the recipient of the wonderful love of my church family acting as the Body of Christ to me. After my knee replacement surgery I received so many manifestations of Christ’s love through the people at New Leaf. From the talented musicians who filled in during my absence to the rising prayers for my healing. From the cozy prayer shawl, many cards, visits and food to the transportation for physical therapy and doctor’s appointments, you were all showing me the great, unending love of the Body of Christ. Those of us who are a part of the Body of Christ know what peace and joy can come from loving Christ and each other unconditionally. When we are working at being the Body of Christ, it becomes so much easier to be Christ to others, in and out of the church. We represent Christ everyday through our words and actions - in the church and in our community. As members of the Body of Christ in this world, we are the physical representation of Christ. Christ manifests His life to the world today through the Body of Christ. What an awesome responsibility we have to be a part of the Body of Christ! I learned this summer that although it is extremely important to show Christ to others through your words and actions, it is equally important to allow others in the Body of Christ to show Christ to you through their loving words and actions. At this holy time of year when God sent His son to earth to show His unending love for us, let us reflect upon how we can unceasingly show Christ to others by our words and actions. Prayer: Lord Jesus, Help us each day to re-present You faithfully to each other and to all the hurting, lost people who dont yet know the peace and joy of being part of the Body of Christ.
