Adventures in Historic Preservation (The Barberton Historical Society. This aint your grandmothers historical society) Over the years we have removed some pretty neat name and date stones off of historic buildings as they have been demolished in downtown Barberton. On Saturday morning we are going to remove the Jacob stone off of the building at Sixth and Tuscarawas. This building is being demolished as part of a renovation of the Barberton Public Library. Our good friends at the Library were nice enough to allow us to remove this stone for future preservation. We want to build an interior wall in the Pig Barn and we greatly appreciate their help and support. If you look at this photo you will see that below the name stone is a band of stone. That should be the roof line. This would make it a parapet stone. If we cut the brick from the back we should be able to pull it on to the roof and then clean it off. We can then lower it down on the platform of the lift. Dont worry we will do this safely. Every man comes home. In the past, our personal best time to remove a stone like this was 1.25 hours Stay tuned we will keep you updated tomorrow night after we have this project completed. .
