Adventures of the Old Guy: Sunday, March 30,2014 Two more days in Florida and my winter is over. It has been a grand time. As Grandfather Winter and his pal Jack Frost prowled and growled in the northern climes I played golf and drank beer with friends and strangers in the warmth of a southern sun. I will return on April Fools Day. It seems appropriate because as I step out of the airplane I will once again be in the land of the fool. What killed the City of Detroit is still afflicting that once great metropolis. Making the city safe is the prime objective to attract productive citizens and the big money it takes to provide jobs. To create a safe environment will take super cops and super firefighters. The plan presented by those in charge of hiring is to provide the lowest wages possible, restrict the pool by insisting on a residency requirement that gives a 15 % point advantage to applicants and to offer no good pension plan or adequate health care benefits. It sounds like the game plan of the Aztecs as the prepared to do battle with the Spanish Conquistadors. Good luck Detroit, I am following those smiling geese that are headed for the Mackinaw area with romance and partying on their minds. Whoever coined the term, dumb as a goose, hasn’t sat in on a government meeting in Detroit yet.
