Advertisement Research Assistant Universiti Brunei Darussalam is seeking suitable applicants for the post of one (1) Research Assistant for the research project below on a one (1) year contract basis (renewable up to 3 years based on performance) for the purpose of assisting in academic research: Project Title: Conservation, development and human dimensions of change in protected areas of Br...unei Darussalam Project Duration: 3 years The research will discover the links between population migration, tourism patterns, economic development trajectories, resource conservation, and changing human dimensions in protected areas in Brunei Darussalam. The goal is to assess household and community wealth and general quality of life, changing demographics of temporary migrants (tourists), and their implication on development and conservation practices in the protected areas. Increases in human population through growth in tourism cab affect the vulnerability and resilience of social and ecological systems in protected areas. Understanding the direct and indirect effects of the human dimension on resource conservation and economic development is of critical concern. Trajectories of human population patterns and tourism in the protected areas is important in assessing pressures on ecological resources and the demand and vulnerability of flora and fauna to visitation and possible disruption through over use by permanent and temporary populations. The role involves doing data collection and data analyses, as well as helping with other general research work including the day to day running of the research activities, ordering of research consumables and keeping an inventory of research materials. The RA will also be expected to do administrative duties to assist the Assistant Vice Chancellor, including overseeing/supervising any part-time or casual workers who may be hired for the field work. He/she will be involved in project management, data management and data processing. The work may require local travel, and possibly international travel for attachment/ training.
