Advice From an Old Man I am sixty years old this year I have been exposed to every philosophy imaginable Whether you believe in God or not does not matter You were given the freedom of choice to think either way God knows if you will ever believe or not So, it makes no difference either way, what will be, will be Political arguments are for fools who are willing to listen to them Likewise, religious arguments are the playground of fools Find those who believe as you do, and feel secure in the parallels God does not willingly suffer the children of men Why do we suffer then, you may ask The older and more infirm I become, the less I think I know the answer What purpose does my pain serve, does it make me more thoughtful? I would argue that it does not, and that in fact, it makes me more doubtful I have pored over the works of brilliant men who suffered If you listen to Mozart or Beethoven, you can hear suffering Great minds through the ages have attempted to connect the known to the unknown Theories abound, and for as many arguments in favor of a point of view, there is a detractor We have indeed inherited the wind, and it blows steadily I have watched nine men wither as president and I pity number ten Why would anyone want that job? It is a killer at best Pray if you can, for the Earth and its future If you cant, that is your privilege Do not assume you are right, for nobody knows There is no proof either way Accept that you will never know, youll be happier Be grateful you got a chance to be here at all Fate is fickle and you cannot predict anything that cant be turned on its head A single slip can change everything dramatically Enjoy what you can and stop worrying It will not change anything if you continue to do so Allow your faculties to pursue knowledge by the best means available When I was young, there was no internet Today, children cannot imagine being without it We rely on computers for everything; think about that Knowledge has been lost and regained many times in history It is the only reasonable explanation for all the holes in our theories If man were more advanced than we are today, it would cover much Dont doubt that it can be wiped clean again All the dreams and speculations cant possibly be wrong The imagination is a wonderful thing, but its roots are in reality Do not ignore any plausible theory Intelligent thought has a purpose Begin to understand that a single human mind can accomplish little The great learners in our society use many different sources Inspiration comes from the works of men; pay attention Read, and when you can read no longer, listen
