Inept management” Once you find your routine, its a very simple job and is well paid for what you actually do. Also, theres a good amount of job security. It gets easily demoralising to traipse around in horrible weather conditions day after day, month after month. Its physically hard and your body goes through a fair amount of toil. Theres a rigid management structure in place which means theres very little opportunity for promotion. Its typical to have one manager for around 20+ postmen. The management interfere too much and should let the postmen get on with their jobs. Nothing really unusual “Dreadful place for full timers to work” The money is good Poor working conditions, shifts that are too long, no toilet facilities, vehicles that dont get fixed. Dont get paid for overtime. They want a part time work force on 0 - 20 hr contracts while managers are top heavy and all full time. If youre delivering or collecting mail there is little contact with other workers. Anyone doing this for a long time will need medical insurance as knee and back problems from carrying mail that is too heavy and walking in excess of 8 miles a day is common. The managers now have rarely done the job they are paid to manage, they ignore staff and do everything to cut costs. Health and safety is a paper exercise only - does not get translated into practice for workers “Outdated modes of work practice.” The pay and meeting people There seems to be a reluctance to move forward and improve. As the managers constantly chase their arses trying to get routes covered theres no time to initiate improvements. We used GPS to measure walk distances and some walks are 40% less than others and nothing is done which causes resentment. Nothing seems transparent. The seniority system. If this was used in Football Bobby Charlton would be playing for England still because of time served. Outdated !! “privatisation was a con, canteen food sucks!! and is too expensive!” job seems quite secure, the pay isnt too bad depending on shift pattern. repetitive, mundane, managers seem hell bent on cutting costs so they can line their pockets with bonuses when targets are met. cuts are made in the wrong places, instead of cutting staff and installing more managers, try doing the reverse, where i work, the place can run on autopilot without supervision, everybody knows their job and knows what needs to done. World class mail just creates more admin roles for otherwise obsolete managers, cut the jobs in the right places!!! When a manager makes a mistake, they are just sent out on gardening leave for a few months, when a postperson does the same they are suspended, pending a hearing, then sacked and can only get their job back via tribunal, find some common ground, too much one for one ........!!! “pay is good, job security good considering current climate,” pay rate and security, banter and staff union restricting improvement and growth they are so stuck in the past and out of touch, long days with more and more work put on everyone including managers they want their pound of flesh and more “The Leadership in Royal Mail is crap, most of the CWU are want to be managers” being Full Time, the pay is good Being Part Time working the same hours as Full Time without being payed. Most managers get away with bullying managers and CWU being the same “dont like women workers, FULL STOP” wages at the end of the week managers and groups of male bullies someone being nice to you “A public sector service company , wrong mismanaged for the last 20 years trying to make a bussiness out of it .” It is a great Job thats been torn apart by mis management which has ended up with a unachieveable work load in the time given , inept managers trying to bully people into working for nothing to make them look good . Now we have first line managers being builled by there managers that have no idea how royal mail letters should be run . The whole of royal mail suffers from the wrong title of a parcel delivery service !! Royal mail letters should deliver letters our sister service parcelforce should be delivering the parcels .. The clue is there in the name .. Most of the manager only got there jobs as they could not handle the real work and only want to do the bare minimum to get they over inflated wages ... Health and safety police / gastarpo !!! Why are we wasting so much money on heath and safety when we are so short of improving the real buisness of delivering letters !! millions is waste on this ........ at the same time we cant get any uniform or saftey gear ???? They ... more That for the last 20 years its managed to survive :O( “A company where you can start at the bottom and work your way up. There are many different types of job and a full range of skills.” The people. From all walks of life all with different stories to tell. Some have completed 50 years and never a day sick, some have been in demanding roles in other businesses but have come to Royal mail for a change Making change. Instead of slowly moving forward making small changes continuously they tend to go for the big bang which is challenging for managers and difficult for people to accept. They have an approach to the health and welfare of staff that is not fully appreciated until you need it but is also abused by the few. “worst place ever” nothing gd about it at all leadership by far its all crap “Fairly good wage.” A wage at the end of the week. Way too many Managers, half of whom dont know the job they are managers of. Alot of managers brought in as graduates, so everything looks great on paper, but not in actuality. Bring in changes without testing first to see if the new system would work. The postperson/driver etc. are the people that try to tell management that the system might work better if ... but never get listended to. Very outdated systems, equipment not good enough for the tasks required. Old fashioned jobs for the boys system. Prevalent bullying. Too many Managers Favourites. Always the same people getting the best duty and lots of favou ... more The most unusual thing about working for Royal Mail would be if Royal Mail listened to their staff. “Not as bad as some people paint it” The people, maybe ive been lucky but the workmates ive had have been second to none. For the work you do the pay is not that bad. Management interference, leave the people who know the job to do the job things will run an awful lot smoother The range of jobs,i work in a mail centre and have done just about all the jobs that were available, yes even a manager for a while. “Have worked for worse companies, people r ok, get on well with most if not all in my work area.” There is nothing difficult in working for the company, every job in processing or distribution is a breeze, cant say the same for delivery lads n lasses, they get the harder part of the job, all respect to them. Team work, almost every one in a work area tries to engage to get the job done, this is good Arrogant , useless, so called managers. Most are two faced, especially the senior ones, who would stab you in the back , first chance they get. You tell one something sensitive in confidence, before you know it half the office knows. Health and safety gone from one extreme to the other, bloody ridiculous now, cant do this , cant do that . Favouritism shown by certain managers toward their own ethnic groups, whether they be white, black or pink wid green spots. Mail centre managers that havent got a scooby doo how to talk to people, or to be precise their people or man management skills are absolute shite, any other firm would sack em on the s ... more Despite the huge differences in the backgrounds and origins of the workforce, Royal Mail is one of the most diverse companies I have ever encountered. Yes, there is sometimes tension between different ethnic groups especially if someone is A) not pulling their weight and management are reluctant to challenge poor performance due to the ethnic background, knowing that senior management will not back them up.Or B) There is tension between their home nations, for instance the India /Pakistan border situation a few years ago. But on the whole, when working within a team in a work area the vast majority of staff get on really well, and get t ... more “a business struggling to develop an identity” royal mail is stepped in tradition and service quality a complete lack of trust between senior and middle management, which reflects in the relationships between the frontline staff and delivery managers. the role of management should not be decided on seniority but suitability. having worked for royal mail in various capacitys over a ten year period culminating in delivery office management i have seen the constant bickering and back stabbing brought about by the lack of openness and honesty displayed by the salary banded staff, too little attention is paid to opinion formers in the community and now privatisation has come in shareholders will rulw with service slipping away. you have the opportunity to impact on the society in which you live, and with the right personnel develop long term stable work relationships. “The best job in the world” Postman for 25 years. Treated brilliantly by the Royal Mail (through all the trouble) and would highly recommend RM as a place to work! Youre never going to be a millionaire a postmen but its good exercise and keeps the heart in shape! The way its all changed in the last 10 years (for better and worse) “Frustrating to see some of the negative reviews here” I dont really get all the negativity around the royal mail on adzuna. Demoralising traipse and complaints about the weather? Really? Yes, its physically demanding (and amazingly it does rain in Britain)! I still think its a brilliant job and a real band of brother mentality Management can be a bit pushy sometimes. I wish they just let us get on with it sometimes. Amazingly, there are 150,000 of us! (staff that is, not just posties) “Still there after thirteen years” Exercise The universal service means a clear office every day, what comes in must go out, staffing levels have been allowed to drop in favour of staff absorbing duties (more work). instead of using this strategy to cover duties when staff go sick, staff do it as a matter of course. Management love this, staff hate it. bullying is usual. How can managers at delivery level be so thick and still remain in a job, there is no moral, just dead men walking Write a review 149 Royal Mail jobsView all Royal Mail jobs » Christmas Processing Post Person 6.31 - 10.31 per hour depending on location and shift - Peterborough Christmas Processing Post Person 6.31 - 10.31 per hour depending on location and shift - Chester Christmas Processing Post Person 6.31 - 10.31 per hour depending on location and shift - Tamworth Christmas Processing Post Person 6.31 - 10.31 per hour depending on location and shift - Heywood Christmas Processing Post Person 6.31 - 10.31 per hour depending on location and shift - Hemel Hempstead Christmas Processing Post Person 6.31 - 10.31 per hour depending on location and shift - Maidstone Christmas Processing Post Person 6.31 - 10.31 per hour depending on location and shift - Leeds Christmas Processing Post Person 6.31 - 10.31 per hour depending on location and shift - Rhondda Production Control Administrator 22853/annum - Branksome, Poole, Dorset Engagement Manager 45000 - 55000/annum Competitive benefits - London View all Royal Mail jobs » 149live Royal Mail jobs on Adzuna £42,797average salary for all Royal Mail jobs See More Stats About Royal Mail Group is a world leader in postal innovation and one of the UKs largest companies.
