Aerials from Tropical Visions and Paradise Helicopters on the Pahoa Lava Flow. This footage was shot by Mick Kalber at 8:00am 11/1/14. We have excellent shots today of the steaming lava throughout the flow field, active flow in the orchard below the cemetery, and lava moving toward a house. Here is this mornings USGS report, combined with our observations: The leading edge of the flow has not advanced, although scattered breakouts have been observed in numerous areas behind the stalled flow front. The lobe that extended from just downslope of the Pāhoa cemetery and had reached private property on Friday afternoon continued to advance by about 5 meters (6 yards) per hour overnight. Additional breakouts in the pasture along the flows southeast (Kalapana) side have been particularly active overnight, advancing during Saturdays early-morning hours at rates up to roughly 11 yards per hour. Of note from the HVO overflight on Friday, breakouts from the flow near the north edge of Kaohe Homesteads have extended the flow there by an estimated 380 yards. The outbreak some two miles up slope is still moving through the grass burn area... it appears headed slowly north toward Ainaloa.
