Aerostructures Assemblies India Pvt Ltd (AAI), a joint venture between Aequs (formerly QuEST Global Manufacturing) and Saab, has achieved AS9100C certification for its manufacturing facility located in the Aequs SEZ, Belgaum, Karnataka, India. Achieving this international Aircraft, Space and Defence (AS&D) industry standard signifies that AAI’s manufacturing of aerostructure assemblies and sub-assemblies meets stringent quality management standards. On 21st February, 2014 AAI became the first manufacturer in India to deliver structural assemblies for the Airbus A380 aircraft. AAI delivered the first batch to Saab in Linkoping (Sweden). Saab in turn delivered the assemblies to Airbus in Filton (UK) as part of the mid and outer leading edge wing section of the A380 aircraft. AAI can manufacture aerostructure assemblies with sizes up to 2.5 x 2.5 meters, weighing up to 100 kilograms, and with a mix of metal and composite parts. Operations started in 2013 and the first assemblies shipped out in 2014. The Belgaum facilities are located in Aequs SEZ, India’s first precision engineering special economic zone. It is spread over 250 acres in Belgaum, Karnataka, India and currently hosts 10 fully functional units across 200,000 square feet of manufacturing floor space. The plant has a built up area of 25,500 square feet with plans to increase it to 60,000 square feet in future.
