AfFOURdable Isn’t a FOUR Letter WORD By: Robin B Gallery Since when did being expensive equate to being better? Although the phrase “You get what you pay for” does ring true when function is a key factor in a purchase. In aesthetics, however, value is driven by the intangible essence of the subject matter – hence the phrase “Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder”. Over and over again you will hear, see – and experience – that “money doesn’t buy taste”. Nothing could be more true than when it comes to determining which art is “a value, ““valuable” or “of value”. Value is typically synonymous with the amount spent in comparison to its worth in the marketplace. Sometimes, the word can be used to express a “find” – that rare piece that is worth more than that which others find it to be or the market says it is. Valuable, on the other hand, can symbolize the increase of the item’s value, making it worth more in a monetary sense. But what is truly important when selecting art, is that it is “of value”. In other words, regardless of price, the work is seen as being worth what it costs, and appreciates over time, in the mind of the viewer – not necessarily the marketplace. In fact, Vincent van Gogh painted his entire life only selling on work of art, The Red Vineyard. Since his death, he has the most work listed within the Top 10 Highest Sold Paintings in modern history (no doubt the phrase “starving artist”, whereas Vincent van Gogh was living simply to paint as seen in his Bedroom in Arles). Price is not always indicative of the experience that art may bring to an individual. Robin B Gallery was founded on the philosophy of “Art for All”, that everyone should have the equal opportunity to acquire and enjoy an original piece of art – regardless of price. In keeping with this motto, the artwork represented by the gallery is easily obtainable because the artists believe in the same. To all of us at Robin B Gallery, AfFOURdable Isn’t a FOUR Letter WORD – but rather a smart purchase of value. robinbgallery
