Affect & Effect The rainy weather had a negative effect on everybodys mood. --- POV: weather With any luck this explanation will positively affect my own ability to keep these words straight. --- POV: my (me) Heres how Im going down fighting regarding my understanding of affect and effect, if the POV character is causing the action then it is effecting change but if the POV character is being acted upon then it is being affected by change. Hence with this sentence, Everybodys mood was affected by the rainy weather, I go with affected because the POV character is everybodys mood and they are having something done to them, so they are being Affected by that something. My reasoning stems primarily from the labeling of the nervous system. Nerves that bring information to the brain are labelled Afferent and nerves that take instructions out to muscles are called Efferent. With, of course, the POV character being the brain.
