Affirmations come in many forms and when you least expect it. So here I was, writing the first draft of this abstract for this academic journal and there was this little voice of shame and self-judgement rearing its annoying ass to the surface. Then one of my professors emailed me this: Let me tell you, you front-loaded your work in my course to the point that by Week 7 I knew you were an A student. You submitted the most substantive discussion posts, your reading summaries were thoughtful and thorough, and all of your numerous interactions with classmates sparked engagement on their part. I remember telling Malissa that I wished I had at least one Mark in every class! This is also the professor who encouraged me to write said abstract in the first place. If you are also doubting your intelligence, I want you to find the nearest mirror or surface that gives off a reflection and say: I am smart enough. Because the way our education system and society is set up-- we dont value creative intellectuals enough.
