Afghanistan: Journalist shot dead in northern Balkh province 13 July 2014 Unknown gunmen shot dead a journalist in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan on Saturday. The journalist, recongized as Khalid Aga Yaqoobi, was working for a private Radio station in Mazar-e-Sharif city. The Afghanistan Journalists Center condemned the attack and said Yaqoobi was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Saturday afternoon. The local officials have not commented regarding the incident so far. Balkh is among the peaceful provinces in northern Afghanistan; however, the anti-government armed militant groups often carry out insurgency activities in this province. No group including the anti-government armed militants have so far claimed responsibility behind the assassination of Khalid Aga Yaqoobi.
