Afghanistan a nation once sandwiched between the British Lion and the Russian Bear as was the saying during the time of British rule in India and thereafter faced the occupation of the Soviet forces from 1979 to 1991 and subsequently the collapse of the Communist rule of Najibullah that was replaced by the Taliban regime that was finally overthrown by the US attack subsequent to the attack on World Trade Center [WTC] in 2001. The entire creation of the Mujaheddin was a US exercise to counter the Soviet Occupation in Afghanistan thus having created a Frankenstein Monster that became a threat for the very US. Terrorism and religious fundamentalism has multiplied and the Islamic fundamentalists are now the biggest threat to the world. Afghanistan is now fighting an enemy that is not their creation but that of somebody else that now threatens the very existence of that nation. Their struggle too is full of challenges but they must achieve success lest the fundamentalist become the biggest threat in Asia.
