Afikpo Chic: NEPA UPDATE: Good evening all, we have been in darkness now for about a week or so. It has not been easy. Darkness is painful. And it affects all us terribly. I inquired from NEPA and was told that 4 poles in Amaudo, Ezza South, was burnt to the ground. That the fire was a result of hunters setting bushes on fire to catch their prey. Luckily the NEPA staff were given some help by the head office, and today I paid for the rest. Even better news is that the new poles will be concrete poles, which are the appropriate ones. I am not in a position to speak grammar with staff of NEPA as they are just doing their job. In due time I will deal with this in an official capacity. But for now grammar without Mula equals darkness and honestly any town without light looks dead.We cannot afford to be in darkness. I am sick of the situation. Even my gens are pleading for a relief. And those trying to eek out a living are making nothing as whatever little profit they get goes on fuel, and the many without gen are left to simply wallow in abject discomfort and teeth-gnashing. Imagine literally the entire Ebonyi south being in darkness for over a week again. Again? God not again. We just enjoyed a super Christmas and holidays of excess light after 3 months of devilish darkness. We do not wanna go down that dark lane again abeg. LIGHT IS LIFE. LIFE IS LIGHT. I do not step out to do this because I have a lot of money, as a matter of fact I dont have much now being that I am running an election. A one woman election at that, as I am both the candidate and literally my own party structure. It is has not been easy. But I once promised you that as long as I am alive, our town cannot be thrown in darkness unattended again. And that is how it will be. Whether I am in Government or not. That is that. No going back. (Clears throat)...Many believe that the opposition party paid NEPA millions to throw us in to darkness to discredit me. I personally do not believe such because both poor, middle-class, rich, the political millionaires & billionaires are all suffering this darkness, no one in his right head will pay to bring darkness to his environment as he too will suffer like all of us. Even if, like me, their light is on for 24 hours a day via generators, he will still need to go out and when he asks for a cold coke and does not get, his body go tell am. No man is an Island - We all need NEPA light. Since the darkness, NEPA staff has been working day and night over the issue and I am happy that today all is well. They are assuring us all that the light will be restored next week. Lastly, the undiluted love my people have for me cannot be diminished by any machination, manipulation or despicable shenanigan. What is written is written. What will be will be. Thanks all. Yours truly, MARIA.
