African-American young lady (who is anti-Zionist) after my lecture at UCLA Hillel: Young Lady: We need to have Black solidarity before we can have solidarity with Israel! You’re confused! Me: Define “Black solidarity”. YL: We need to come together first. Me: African-Americans have been “coming together” for hundreds of years. That doesn’t stop us from speaking to other causes. YL: I don’t mean African-Americans. I’m talking about in Israel. Me: You mean Black Jews in Israel should be anti-Israel? YL: Yes. Me: So you’re saying that Ethiopian parliament members like Shimon Solomon or Pnina Tamano-Shata (along with the thousands of other Ethiopian Jews in Israel) should not be serving their country? YL: Yes. Me: OK. In my meeting with MK Solomon tomorrow I’ll be sure to tell him that (young lady’s name) says he’s a sell out, and that he is betraying “Black solidarity” by serving his homeland.
