African Movement of Working Children and Youth (AMWCY): African Commissions meeting The African Commission of the AMWCY held their annual meeting from 14th to 26th February 2011 in Thies, Senegal. National delegates from the following countries attended the meeting: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, DRC, Rwanda, Senegal, Chad, Togo and Zimbabwe. During the meeting, the delegates assessed the activities of the countries, which were broken down in 7 intervention areas of the movement. This helped them to see what results have been obtained and what changes observed. They updated the follow up questionnaire, checked the follow up tool of the coordinations, checked and approved the accounts and the budget of this year, examined the statistics of members and sympathizers and membership applications of new towns. They also discussed financial supports, the Memorandum of Understanding between Enda and the WCYAs and the National Coordinations. They also discussed about the methodological approach used in the protection of mobile children as well as strategies developed during successful activities. On 21st and 22nd February, they worked with Mr. Alassane Drabo of Plan WARO. With his facilitation, they participated in drafting the project document between the movement and Plan for the coming three years (2012-2014). They identified the strengths and weaknesses of the current program which will terminate at the end of this year and the changes they would like to see applied if the program is to continue. They also discussed the strategies to be put in practice for the sustainability of the project and also defined the qualitative and quantitative indicators. During the morning of the 25th of February, they shared the following findings with the partners of the movement in Dakar: UNICEF, Terre des Hommes, Save the Children and IOM the results of their work and actions carried out in different countries to realize the rights of the children. The partners welcomed unanimously the potentials of the AMWCY to protect children. They qualified it a source of inspiration for the intervening actors in the child protection area and promised to carry out the activities along with the movement.
