African Story (GB) CH , G, foaled March 10, 2007 (Pivotal (GB) - Blixen, by Gone West) tracked the pace setter, Mukhadram, from the inside then went to his outside to post a victory in the 1 1/4 miles (2000 meters) $10 Million Group I on the All-Weather track in the Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse March 29, 2014. African Story was ridden by Silvestre De Sousa and trained by Saeed bin Suroor for the owners at Godolphin Racing and ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He was bred by Darley Stud. The Sheikh has now won the World Cup seven times in the 19-year history of the worlds richest race. African Story was kept along the rail as Mukhadram set the pace. As they reached the top of the stretch, jockey De Sousa angled African Story to the outside and barreled his way to the lead and drew off, winning by 2 1/2 lengths. Cat OMountain was about 4 lengths further back in 3rd. African Story set a new course record of 2:01.61, more than a second faster than the old mark was set in the 2012 running of the World Cup by the Sheiks Monterosso. African Story ran 5th in last years running won by Animal Kingdom. Congratulations Everybody!!
