Afro-Chinese marriages in Guangzhou, China: In 1999 when white - TopicsExpress

Afro-Chinese marriages in Guangzhou, China: In 1999 when white man Rupert Murdoch married a Chinese woman, Wendy Deng, it was hailed, welcomed positively in the media as the perfect strategy for the media mogul to get a hold of the Chinese market. Wind 15 years forward to 2014, and there is suddenly heavy reporting, much of it rather negative about how Black Africans are marrying Chinese women in Guangzhou, like there is no tomorrow, for economic reasons and not love. Oh, please tell me, what is love? Arent the mostly western journalists and the mostly racist non-African researchers the journalists rush to consult as sources, some of whom are my academic rivals and not my research colleagues, unfair for claiming that Africans in Guangzhou marry for economic reasons only? Can anyone on this forum tell me that other people do not marry for economic or other reasons of personal gain? Many marriages today are successful business units and they were formed with that in mind. When I lived in the US (California) there were dating companies that matched potential couples on the basis of income brackets. Why are some of these stupid western scholars and their uncritical Chinese students singling out Africans in Guangzhou? And please tell me one little thing: are these Chinese girls being forced to marry the Africans? Arent they all over 18 and free to decide who to marry, whether or not for love or economic reasons?
