After 10 years in the recruitment industry this week has been by far the toughest yet. One candidate I interviewed earned $18 an hour for 7.5 years and couldnt make ends meet. This persons attitude and willingness to work was unbelievable, and it makes me feel saddened that he cant find a job to simply pay his bills and provide for his family. Another candidate has a masters degree and some great experience but has been rejected time after time yet he still gets up and puts himself out there because he has nothing and needs nothing more than a job. It really makes you think about how lucky you are to have what you have. It also makes you realise that there are people out there who want to work hard to provide for their families but are struggling in many areas of their lives, not just financially but with their relationships, confidence and belief in themselves. Appreciate what you have, and make the most of every opportunity because there are people out there that are really suffering. Forget about your first world problems and focus on what really counts.
