After 183 consecutive days inpatient in NY (exactly 6 months to the day), Margo is now back at our home hospital for care. Everything happened so fast. Tuesday we thought we were still planning to start a new trial. Wednesday it was decided that no further treatment was possible. Thursday was a whirlwind of paperwork, phone calls, approvals and an unfolding of paths the next week could potentially take... Could Margo be home for Christmas? Would she really be home? Meanwhile, in a simultaneous universe, Margos pain was better controlled and somehow we found time to get our faces painted and enjoy visits from Santa, carolers and clowns. Thursday evening we found out the air ambulance had been arranged for the next day!! Friday morning we surprised Margo with the exciting announcement that shed get to take an adventure... Flying to STL to see our boys for Christmas! Her first question was whether she could come back to visit NY. She will very much miss her nurses and all of her NY friends. They are forever our family. It was Friday evening by the time Margo was delivered to her hospital room, which she was surprised to find decorated by her nurses welcoming her back... Its a Frozen princess winter wonderland with 3 Christmas trees and lots of snowflakes! Amazing. Saturday morning my heart overflowed as Max came to the hospital, completely surprised to see us!! He could not stop smiling from ear to ear. Our family is whole once again. Max immediately got excited asking if Margo could come to the house for Christmas... We let him know we are trying. Our princess is still in a great deal of pain and her blood pressure is spiking extremely high because of her very fragile kidneys. We need to get those both under control in order to get home. We had a difficult but necessary and honest meeting with our doctor Saturday afternoon. We are starting to realize where we are in this journey. Its all so unbelievable.
