After 54years of Independence and 15years of uninterrupted - TopicsExpress

After 54years of Independence and 15years of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria, Mgbishi, a rural community situated in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area in Imo state have no good road, no primary school, no secondary school, no electricity, no market, non-existent infrastructure, no basic amenities even of the lowest grade, and grave security challenges which have resulted in innumerable incident of rape and robbery is now threatening the life of the inhabitants. It is far from a fairy tale but reality that 15 years down the line, no value seem to have been added to the lives of the people of Mgbishi. Despite the huge oil revenues of Nigeria and the allocation being shared to the state, the wealth of the country have not changed the life of the ordinary Nigerian. Rather than abate, our woes as a nation seem to be multiplying. As an incurable optimist, I always believe God for a positive change no matter how bleak the future may seem and like I always say activism is inherent in all human and silence in the face of oppression, marginalization and injustice make one a complicit to the crime. A great weapon for Nigerians is their voices. These voices will provoke appropriate action to foster desired change. On this note I would like to commend the Mgbishi Christian women for utilizing the great weapon of voice and speaking out against the abnormal situation in Mgbishi, demanding for a change whilst also inspiring others to do same. Finally while my fears for the future of Nigeria remain valid, it is my hope and believe that succour will come the way of the people of Mgbishi community soon. I hereby dedicate this day to the women of Mgbishi community for their exemplary boldness in voicing out their grievances out there in Owerri. God bless Mgbishi community.
